This bus has undergone light restoration in 2023 where the bus was fully resprayed in VW Neptune Blue costing approx. £5, 000. The paintwork presents well with a good smooth finish throughout. The underside of the bus is in good condition also having been well cared for throughout previous ownerships. It retains a very original feel from the exterior, iconic for this era which is aided by original steel wheels, polished VW hub caps, VW chrome work and original style bumpers. Effort has been made to ensure that the bus does not lose the charm indicative of its era.
Like almost all T2s, this bus started life as a commercial vehicle and was later converted into a wonderful camper van as this concept became more and more popular throughout the decades. Heritage letter from Volkswagen to confirm provenance from new and manufacturer date. The bus is also rare in that it is a twin sliding door model as opposed to most buses that only have one sliding door on the opposite side of the driver.
New cabinetry has been custom built and installed. The drivers side sliding door is operational and opens to create a bar area behind the cabinetry, a well thought out design that works effectively when camping with friends and also well suited to a party scenario, allowing the host to serve drinks straight out of the bus. 240v mains hookup installed allows for unlimited electricity when connected. LED lighting kits, motion lights etc.
The camping interior was also completed recently in 2023 and features a headliner in the correct perforated off white vinyl as per factory specification. Full reupholstery throughout including front seats, door cards and bed cushions, embellished neatly with fluted inserts.
An expensive and good quality diesel heater has been fitted, an big bonus allowing for the bus to be usable throughout all seasons with much added comfort. There is also a electric heater that can be used at campsites when hooked up to electric, effective in that a lot of pitches offer unlimited free electricity.
There is a Rock n roll bed which acts as a two person rear seat that folds down to make a large bed when camping. There is also an additional rear facing buddy seat that folds up out the way when travelling and saves space.
Seatbelts retrofitted front and rear for additional safety.
The bus is mechanically well sorted featuring a reconditioned 1600 Twin Port engine running new twin Weber carburettors and a good quality Filter King fuel pressure regulator. Five new tyres fitted 2022 (including spare wheel). Push button start.
