Ixion Motorcycles, a British motorcycle manufacturer, had its roots planted firmly in the early 20th century, operating from 1910 to 1923. Initially based in Gt. Tindal St, Ladywood, Birmingham, the company later relocated to Smethwick, Staffordshire. In its early years, Ixion produced motorcycles characterized by their reliability and performance. By 1920, Ixion had established itself as a reputable motorcycle manufacturer, advertising various models to suit different needs. These included the Model A and Model B, both equipped with 2½hp two-stroke engines and differing in transmission options. The Model C featured a 2½hp engine with a three-speed gearbox, while the Model D catered specifically to female riders with its design and specifications. However, despite its success and expansion, Ixion faced challenges, including the need to streamline operations. By the time of its relocation to Smethwick, the company had consolidated its offerings to focus on a single model powered by a 269cc Villiers engine, available with direct-belt drive or two-speed chain-cum-belt drive. Although the company ceased operations in 1923, its legacy lives on through its innovative designs and contributions to the early motorcycle industry.

This 1921 2½HP Ixion Ladies Model was purchased by Dorothy Pearce Healey in January 1925. It was purchased at the same time her sister Madeline Edith Healey purchased the other Ixion Ladies model offered at the sale. The sisters enjoyed the Ixions sparingly until 1931. It is understood a cousin from the family purchased both machines in 1954 and never did anything with them until they were sold by Palmer & Snell auctioneers at the Bath and West Showground in 1983. At the time, Palmer & Snell decided to keep them together as one lot. The lucky winning bidder was a Mr Joe Rush. This was the first time Mr Rush got into motorcycles and had limited knowledge of the restoration side of ownership, however, the machines turned out well after they were both restored. Since completion, they have been at many VMCC events together. ‘TB 1598’ has not been used for some time and would need to be recommissioned before use. It is offered with the original RF60 showing the two previous owners, a current V5C, old paperwork, and photos of the machine back in the 1950s.
