Description

This is an incredibly rare, original UK RHD home market example that we know incredibly well having carried out a huge level of work on the car back in 2020-2021. We are also pleased to confirm this was the De Tomaso Geneva Motor Show Car, confirmed by paperwork supplied with the car.. This is simply unrepeatable for so many reasons, not only being unique as the Geneva Motor Show Car but one of the very few RHD UK examples ever produced. Finding a RHD De Tomaso Pantera GTS is difficult, there are very few in existence and making this opportunity even more unique is the fact it has covered less than 34, 000 miles from new and is a low ownership car with fantastic history. Over 2020 and 2021 the De Tomaso has been put through a refurbishment program costing over £80, 000 and the car is truly exceptional. It’s been through our hands with regular customers a couple of times, most recently selling to a client of ours in Somerset in 2023. Since then the car has been serviced, covered 400 faultless miles and the recent owner has now fulfilled the lifelong dream of owning a Pantera GTS and now awaits an open top classic for the summer.
Our Pantera GTS was purchased new by a North London Building Contractor, Mr Barr who owned the car from 1973 to 2002. Mr Barr covered little over 20, 000 miles in 29 years of ownership, and in 2002 it sold the car to the second owner who used the car for various shows and events, selling it in 2009 with 26600 miles from new. The De Tomaso sold to one of our long-standing customers who owned the car until 2020 covering over 6000 miles and spending in the region of £20, 000 on maintenance work and upkeep over the eleven years. The car arrived with us for a program of re-commissioning work and prior to completing the work, we sold the car to one of our long term clients who wanted to take this very correct car back to an exceptional standard. First of all the 350BHP Cleveland Ford 5. 7 V8 engine and five speed ZF gearbox were removed from the car. The engine was completely stripped down and treated to a full rebuild to include an upgrade stroker kit, main and big end bearings, new crankshaft, new rods, new pistons, re-bored, full overhaul of cylinder heads with bigger valves, new carburettor, balanced flywheel, and new clutch. The braking system was overhauled to include new brake calipers, the suspension rebuilt, and the cooling was system was overhauled to include a new water pump. Driveshafts were overhauled, universal joints replaced, the alternator and starter motor replaced, and thousands of pounds spent on rebuilding the air-conditioning system to include a new A/ C pump and rebuilt compressor. Whilst the engine and major mechanicals were removed from the De Tomaso, the external bodyshell was stripped down and fully prepared for a complete full re-spray due to its very original looking, faded paintwork. The De Tomaso was fully re-painted in its original colour, the engine bay compartment fully painted ahead of re-installation of the engine, and the alloy wheels re-furbished before a new set of tyres were fitted to the car. The bumpers were sent away for triple plate re-chroming, and the interior then fully re-trimmed in top quality leather. The original seats were re-trimmed, as were the door cards and kick panels, the carpets replaced and a new dash top trimmed. The centre console was all stripped down and re-trimmed, and many internal items such as switches re-furbished to ensure a beautiful interior finish. On completion of all the work, the car was MOT tested and then put through a detailing program that included stripping and re-painting the top engine cover, stripping and re-painting the frames to the fans and radiator, re-furbishing and painting the horns and re-painting the boot cover at the front of the vehicle. The stunning rebuilt engine was detailed including the various brackets and inner arches and the underside cleaned and detailed to a high standard. Since then the De Tomaso has had careful use and has been kept in exceptional condition.

The De Tomaso Pantera comes with a huge extensive history file, various literature, featured magazine articles and of course the receipts and photos for the recent program of work. The car also comes with its correct tool kit and tool bag, including correct jack. This is without doubt an incredibly sought-after car, a true collector's piece and one of the very few RHD examples ever built. The car is beautiful in terms of detail, the paint finish stunning, chrome work exceptional and the no expense spared interior re-trim looks magnificent. The De Tomaso has covered almost 1000 miles since completion and is sensational on the road. The fully rebuilt V8 engine offers outstanding performance, it's ferociously quick, sounds incredible and the 5 speed ZF gearbox is excellent to use. This is a stunning, gleaming superbly presented car that offers a huge level of provenance through its low mileage, low ownership, level of originality, recent program of work and of course how rare it is in RHD format. TGX 37M is a true Italian - American icon combining the muscle power of an American V8 with signature Italian styling offering world class performance, it has a very special place in super car history. There will not be another one quite like this
