Passionate about motor racing, Argentine Alejandro De Tomaso founded his automotive construction company in 1959 near Modena. The crowning achievement came with the Pantera, whose design is credited to Giugiaro (as with the Mangusta). Presented in 1970 at the New York Motor Show, its main rival was the Chevrolet Corvette. With a steel monocoque chassis housing a 5. 8-litre Ford Cleveland V8 producing 310 hp, the Italian is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/ h in 5. 8 seconds. Its main ace is its unbeatable price-to-performance ratio compared with the competition, and De Tomaso hammers the point by negotiating its distribution in the United States (its main market) through the Lincoln-Mercury network. In the first year, 1, 007 units were sold there, a figure of great significance for the company!
This Pantera is the 160th built, delivered new in France by the Franco-British garage; it has had only four owners. The last one, a Ferrari dealer, cared for the car with care and restored it between 2010 and 2015.
The Push Button version is recognisable by its door handles that set it apart from the other Panteras, and represents the very first units produced (382 Push Button models) before the line evolved.
This De Tomaso will be fully overhauled for sale. A few items will be brought back into compliance, such as the rear lights, the interior ceiling light button; four new tyres will also be fitted.
