Lot 400
From the collection of noted collector, the late Ken Senior
1971 Honda 49cc CZ50A Mini Trail 'Monkey Bike'
Registration no. YE 6800 (see text)
Frame no. 351357
Engine no. 633344
With the launch of the CZ100 in 1960, Honda created the class of machine known as 'monkey bikes', so called because of their diminutive stature. Off road-styled models, such as that offered here, were dubbed 'Mini Trail', although the 'off-road' features amounted to little more than knobbly tyres and an upswept exhaust.
Supplied new by Harry Wood Ltd of Newcastle upon Tyne, this Mini Trail comes with its original logbook recording a change of registration from 'BJR 8K' to 'YE 6800' in June 1974, having been acquired in March of that year. However, it should be noted that the registration 'YE 6800' is not recorded in either the DVLA or HPI databases; accordingly, the successful purchaser will need to apply to the DVLA for the reassignment of that registration.
In 1975 the Honda was given to Ken Senior's youngest son for his 10th birthday and used for only a short while. Additional documentation consists of the original service booklet and owner's manual; the original sales invoice; and the 1974 purchase receipt. Following a period of static display, the machine will require careful recommissioning at the very least, and possibly more extensive restoration, before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
