The 1985 Yamaha TY250R Monoshock marked a significant evolution in the world of trials motorcycles, as it introduced a revolutionary monoshock rear suspension system to the TY series. This new design provided superior handling and comfort, helping Yamaha to maintain its competitive edge in the trials bike market. The TY250R was designed for serious riders, offering improved performance over its predecessors in navigating challenging terrain and obstacles. The TY250R is powered by a 246cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, delivering around 22 horsepower, which provided enough power for both novice and experienced trials riders. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, the bike delivered smooth gear transitions, ideal for the precise and controlled riding needed in trials events. The standout feature of the 1985 TY250R was its monoshock rear suspension, which replaced the traditional twin-shock setup. This innovative design improved rear-wheel traction and stability, especially over rough or uneven surfaces. The front suspension consisted of telescopic forks, which, combined with the monoshock rear, offered excellent overall handling and manoeuverability. The TY250R Monoshock remains a popular model among vintage trials enthusiasts due to its advanced technology, lightweight frame, and overall reliability. It played a key role in the development of modern trials bikes and continues to be a sought-after collector's item.
This TY250R was used by the private vendor for trials for some time, but it has not been used for the past 10 years, and will therefore require re-commissioning and safety checks before use by a new owner, hence sold strictly as seen. There are no documents with this machine. Key not required.
