All the invoices for this exceptional restoration are available, but that's not all: dozens of maintenance and repair invoices testify to the constant attention it has received. The result was the MG C GT, a fastback coupé version that was as stylish as it was little-known, and which made no secret of its ambitions as a British grand tourer. Under its domed bonnet - a necessity to accommodate the generous dimensions of the engine inherited from the Austin-Healey 3000 - was the famous C-Series block, an in-line six-cylinder producing around 147 bhp. While the figure may seem modest today, it propelled the C GT to more than 190 km/ h, a very respectable performance for its time. The styling, by Pininfarina, retains the timeless elegance of the MGB GT, but the MG C is recognisable by its wider wheels, dented bonnet and reinforced tyres. Inside, it was British charm in all its sobriety: leather, thick carpet, full Smiths instrumentation, and a driving position that was ideal for swallowing up the miles. Production ceased in 1969, after just a year and a half and 4, 458 examples produced in GT Coupé form. Today, the MG C GT is a collector's item.
