Description
Unique features: - Short chassis - Targa Soft Window - Golden Green paintwork (less than 10 examples worldwide) - Very good overall condition This 1968 Porsche 912 Targa, presented in a rare configuration, is imported from the United States. It was meticulously maintained by its last owner for 5 years, before recently returning to France, and is distinguished by its Golden Green paintwork, a very rare colour worn by fewer than 10 units worldwide. The bodywork is in excellent condition, with the paintwork polished to perfection. The interior retains its original dashboard, with a slight deterioration to the right of the clock, in keeping with the model's age. Under the bonnet, this 912 Targa has a 90bhp engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. An identical, year-correct engine was fitted in the past following a break-in. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained by Classic Renov, a renowned Porsche 356 and 911 specialist. A mechanical check-up was recently carried out to ensure that everything is in perfect working order. The displayed mileage is 300 km, due to the 5-digit odometer.
Model History Summary: The Porsche 912 Targa, produced from 1966 to 1969, was a variant of the 912, a sports car designed as an entry-level version of the famous 911. Launched in 1965, the 912 combined the body and chassis of the 911 with a 1. 6-litre air-cooled 4-cylinder flat engine inherited from the 356. With 102 bhp and fuel consumption of up to 7. 8 litres per 100 km, it offered a compromise between performance, handling and efficiency. The Targa was distinguished by its removable roof and its innovative transparent plastic rear window that could be opened with a zip, known as the 'Targa soft-window'. A version with a rigid rear window ("hard-window Targa") followed in 1968. The model is also notable for having been used by the German and Dutch police forces, with the 100, 000th Porsche vehicle delivered being a 912 Targa for the Baden-Württemberg police force. Despite its success, the 912 was discontinued after 1969, replaced by the 4-cylinder 914. Developments in the 911 and new emissions regulations also contributed to this decision, marking the end of the 912's history as an accessible mainstay of the Porsche range ---------- More information: Europe's leading car concierge, Carsup assists its customers with the purchase, care and sale of their vehicles, from classic cars to modern supercars.
