Description

The BMW 3. 0 CSL/ CSi of Vittorio Pugliese and later of Marco and Maurizio Micangeli Initially entered by Vittorio Pugliese during the 1978 and 1979 European Touring Car Championship seasons, this BMW 3. 0 CSL took part in a number of major events, including the Italian circuits of Monza, Vallelunga, Magione and Mugello, as well as Zandvoort in the Netherlands. On its first appearance at Mugello in April 1978, with a crew consisting of Pugliese and the driver nicknamed 'Tarta', the car finished a respectable 10th overall after setting the 8th fastest time in qualifying. Although the results of the following races in 1979 with Pugliese and his team-mate Biggi remain poorly documented in the official archives, its regular presence on these starting grids testifies to its sustained competitive commitment. In 1980, the car changed hands to brothers Marco and Maurizio Micangeli, this time in the form of a BMW 3. 0 CSi sporting distinctive new yellow and brown colours. The team took part in a number of European rounds, including the prestigious events at Monza, Vallelunga and Brno. At Silverstone, for the Tourist Trophy in September, Marco and Maurizio Micangeli achieved their best result with a remarkable 6th place overall, just four laps behind the winner, after starting from 14th on the grid. This excellent result validates the meticulous engine preparation work and the specific adjustments made to the chassis by their technical team. Thus configured, this private BMW 3. 0 CSi demonstrated on several occasions its ability to compete effectively with the formidable official BMW 3. 0 CSLs entered in Group 2. After taking a few years off, our BMW 3L CSL returned to the track in historic races, including several appearances at Le Mans Classic. Requiring a general overhaul and updating of its safety features before returning to the track, it is now waiting for its new driver to take on new challenges, whether in rallying for the Tour Auto or in endurance racing on the circuit.
