Description
INTRODUCTION
The Testarossa was first unvealed at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. All versions of the Testarossa were available with a rear-mounted manually operated five-speed gearbox. The rear mid-engine design (engine positioned between the axles but behind the cabin) keeps the center of gravity in the middle of the car, which increased stability and improved the car's cornering ability, resulting in a static weight distribution of 40% front : 60% rear.
The Testarossa is a recognized cultural icon of the 1980s and was popularized by media, including the television series Miami Vice from 1984 (starting from the 1986 season) and Sega's video game Out Run from 1986.
The original Testarossa was redesigned for the 1992 model year and was introduced as the 512 TR (TR stands for TestaRossa) at the Los Angeles Auto Show, essentially as a completely new car, featuring an improved weight distribution of 41% front, 59% rear and a 38 BHP stronger engine, which gave the 512 TR in total 428 BHP.
