Moto Guzzi was established in 1921 by three friends from the Italian Air Corps and is Europe’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer in continuous production, based in the same factory in Mandello del Lario overlooking Lake Como ever since. After mainly producing single cylinder designs for their road bikes Moto Guzzi launched the 750cc V7 in 1969 to satisfy the demand for larger capacity bikes and the iconic transverse shaft drive V-twin layout has now become Guzzi's signature design, with the sporty Le Mans models becoming the most sought after model.
A beautiful looking bike with classic Italian lines, this Mk5 Le Mans is presented in an excellent and original condition. The bike has been part of an enthusiast's small private collection for a number of years and used sparingly for summer rides with the speedo displaying a credible c. 14, 420 miles. It is fitted with the correct 'Lafranconi 29' chrome 2-into-2 exhaust system with the downpipes stamped T28 and silencers stamped S281 and Koni rear shocks. The air box has been removed and replaced with pod filters, rearset footrest fitted and the rear brake calliper repositioned above the spindle, but all the original standard parts are included in the sale. The vendor recently gave the carbs an overhaul and it comes supplied with an owner's manual, workshop manual, a few old MOTs and a current V5C.
PLEASE NOTE: We understand that this Le Mans is listed as a 'Category D insurance loss - Vehicle Damaged But Repairable - Insurer Decided Not To Repair 14/ 02/ 1997' We are not aware of what the specific damage was, however, it was subsequently repaired and put back on the road and has passed a few MOTs since.
