BackgroundSaab, of course, were early adopters of turbocharging technology and introduced their seminal 99 Turbo in 1978. It was such a success that when the larger 900 was launched, a turbo version inevitably followed. Saab were acknowledged masters of turbocharging, doing much more than many competitors to properly integrate the technology into their cars. Their secret was the use of the Bosch-manufactured APC unit (Automatic Performance Control), which adapted the turbo’s boost and characteristics depending on conditions and driving style.
The CarThe 900 Turbo shares a key attribute with all other 900s: a highly practical and adaptable cabin, in this case with a large, accessible hatchback. But being the hot version, it looks the part as well. The car has covered just over 205, 000 miles, which is high for most cars – but if any marque can handle it, it has to be the Swedes. The interior barely looks like it has done 50, 000 miles, given the condition it’s in. It features a lovely grey cloth interior that contrasts nicely with the black interior plastics. The car is finished in a vibrant red, with black-finished lower sections and the large safety bumpers so closely associated with the 900 model. A standard rubber boot spoiler is fitted, as is a set of the desirable three-spoke “Aero-style” alloy wheels. With a stack of paperwork and an MOT valid until April 2026, the car is ready to be used and enjoyed. It would make a great summer daily driver or an ideal entry-level weekend toy.
