Saab 900i 16V combi coupé from 1992 2. 0 injection atmo engine, 133 HP Borg Warner 37 3-speed auto gearbox I acquired it in Holland in July 2023, it belonged to a doctor who made his rounds of visits in the countryside, and also had to use it for his holidays, hence the high mileage but guaranteed regular and continuous use over the years, hence its very nice condition.
It was then sold in 2021 by him on his retirement to a company specialising in the repair and resale of classic vehicles in Nieren: Classic Roadster, from whom I bought it.
The beautiful red Saab then took to the road from Holland and I personally drove it to a well-known Saab restoration professional in the Dijon area, who undertook in-depth work on the bodywork and underpinnings in order to track down any trace of rust, and there was often some hidden in nooks and crannies where few people look and know that corosion nestles.
I have, of course, a complete photo file of the work carried out, which was long and tedious, but not without talent, and which helps to reassure us of the quality of the healthy sheet metal found on this 900! All the parts welded or rebuilt in new sheet metal were then protected in accordance with the rules of the trade or repainted (rocker panels, bumper skirts), and fortunately no visible panel or bodywork part was affected.
Many parts, such as the heating tap, which was often blocked, as well as wearing parts such as the 4 shock absorbers, the suspension silent blocks and the front and rear brakes, were replaced by new parts. Many small parts, such as the expansion tank and the seatbelt clips, were replaced by new parts, It may not seem like it, but small details can make a big difference. The gearbox underwent a complete overhaul, with the crimped hose to the cooling radiator, which often leaks with age, replaced.
Despite its high km, the engine is in very good health, and its working order allows it to rev normally. It is mated to this automatic gearbox, which is not a thunderbolt but allows smooth operation without furious acceleration, and its use at cruising speed on small roads or in town is to be preferred, even if on the motorway it easily maintains 130km/ h at cruising speed, and even much more if necessary, on its 3rd gear, which is very long, and the 16-valve effect is clearly felt at around 4, 000 rpm, as with any B202i engine.
The interior is in very good condition as far as the upholstery is concerned, the seats show no wear, fit normally and everything is functional. The top of the dashboard has not suffered from the heat and just has a few mm cracks in certain places, Note, however, that the headliner behind the sunroof is coming a little loose, but this is not dramatic. Note that I have a new original headliner ready to fit and that I can also ask a saddler I know to do this before the sale, to be discussed at the time of the transaction.
It has very little equipment and gadgets for a 1992 car, no air conditioning of course but an electrically controlled sunroof, which is very pleasant to use when driving, the windows are manual and always respond.
It's got all the essentials for a car of this era, i. e. comfort first and foremost and rock-solid mechanical reliability, all in a head-turning red dress that's a real crowd-pleaser on the road!
It now awaits its new owner, who will be able to take advantage of it and use its collector's plates for all journeys, including the ZFEs of the major cities. It has its FFVE certificate and its CG and French collector's plates in my name since recently (not yet on these photos). The CT will be repeated for the sale, but I enclose the one from April 2024 when it came out of restoration. A test drive is possible during your visit, with a driver of course!
