In 1972, KTM introduced the GS 175, a revolution that didn't go unnoticed. Just looking at that high-revving expansion chamber, disappearing between the engine and the frame, was enough to understand. Mounting highly tuned two-stroke engines meant the muffler had to be pot-bellied.
As for the chassis, however, the trick to relieve the frame of stress was interrupted welds and reinforcements placed here and there.
The engine, branded KTM, was actually a Rotax, robust, almost military-grade in reliability and rideability.
The hubs were alloy, and the fuel tank, strictly blue, was made of composite material, as were the side panels and number plates, highly resistant to shock and vibration.
And then there were CEV and Magura controls (strictly Made in West Germany) with a British Amal carburetor.
An iconic bike for aging off-roaders.
