The last Beetles with air-cooled engines were exported from Germany to North America. January 1980 saw the end of production of the famous Beetles built by Karmann in Osnabruck since 1979, in limited series for the American market, a wealthy country which at the time was able to afford the best models of the time, including the 1013LS convertible.
