What is it?
A Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500 Silver Arrow — the final limited edition of the long-lived R129 series, named after Mercedes’ legendary “Silver Arrows” of the late-1930s and mid-1950s. This is one of only 100 UK cars, created to mark the end of R129 production and to pay tribute to one of the greatest Mercedes-Benz Works drivers of all time, Sir Stirling Moss OBE.
Launched in 1989, the R129 is widely recognised as one of Mercedes’ most beautifully engineered roadsters, combining refinement and luxury with a performance-focused grand touring character. With advanced safety and engineering for its era — including electronic stability control, ABS disc brakes, adaptive damping and an integral rollover bar — it remains one of the most respected SL models ever built.

How does it drive?
Powered by the 5. 0-litre V8, the SL500 produces around 322–326 bhp and delivers 0–62 mph in approximately 6. 3–6. 4 seconds, with a quoted top speed of around 155 mph. The real appeal is how it delivers its performance — power is smooth, quiet and immediate, with effortless V8 torque that builds speed with very little effort.
On the road, the R129 feels solid, stable and composed, with a ride quality that suits long journeys and relaxed cruising.
