A masterpiece of Italian couture, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and realised by Carrozzeria Ghia, the Ghibli was one of the most desirable cars of its time. Even in the price list, serious competitors such as the Ferrari 365 GTB/ 4 (Daytona) were available at a lower price. Industrialists such as Henry Ford II and celebrities such as Hollywood star Jean-Paul Belmondo appreciated the exclusive quality of this handcrafted class car.
In a contemporary article in auto motor und sport (1969), Reinhard Seiffert wrote about the Maserati Ghibli: "Sleeping dogs pricked up their ears, serious men rose from their desks, and well-behaved housewives put on rouge and straightened their knots.
The Maserati Ghibli still thrills in the same way today: With a turn of the ignition key, 330 hp make themselves heard with a powerful voice. The light-alloy V8 engine with four overhead camshafts is hidden under the slightly notched, elongated bonnet. The driver looks through a large, flat windscreen at the road ahead. The front seats are separated by a voluminous transmission tunnel. The imposing dashboard is fitted with numerous instruments and switches. Everything about this car is classy and appears generous to the point of lavishness. The example offered here left the factory as a coupé and was converted into a convertible at a body shop. This was common practice at the time, especially as Maserati itself no longer offered any convertibles in its model programme. As far as I know, production was discontinued for cost reasons.
The state of care and preservation can be rated as very good. The owner has owned this car for an astonishing 29 years (!). He has always had the Maserati serviced and maintained by specialised workshops. There is a file folder full of invoices etc. from this period. These add up to well over €50, 000 in investments (brake system, chassis, engine, etc.).
The silver paintwork is in beautiful condition, as is the chrome and the dark green soft top and interior. When opened, the soft top disappears completely under a metal cover. The Maserati is mounted on the popular Campagnolo rims.
