The BMW Z3 (E36/ 7) was the first two-door roadster produced in large numbers in BMW’s portfolio since the BMW 503 and the Z1. It was built and assembled exclusively in the newly established factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. BMW aimed to shield itself from currency fluctuations by building a new factory in the USA and to become more competitive in the US market. The quality of the vehicles produced there matched that of the BMWs built in Germany. The Z3 Roadster was introduced in autumn 1994 and was BMW’s answer to the roadster boom of the 1990s, especially to the Mazda MX-5, whose concept served as a blueprint and which, as a two-seat roadster, had almost a monopoly up to that point. The Z3 Roadster was based on the platform of the BMW 3 Series Compact. Later in 1998 the coupé version followed. Between 1994 and 2002, various versions with 4‑cylinder, 6‑cylinder and M engines were produced. Power ranged from 115 PS in a 1. 8-litre variant to 325 PS in the M models. At the turn of the millennium there was a significant model refresh for most variants (facelift), in particular the rear wheel arches of the roadsters were more pronounced and most engines received more displacement/ horsepower. The BMW Z3 developed into a success for BMW; it was pleasing to look at, sporty to drive, and also practical, reliable and price-competitive in terms of purchase, maintenance and care. It has a loyal following today and has already become a Youngtimer collector’s item. Prices for good and well-maintained examples are rising steadily. The here-offered BMW Z3 3. 0i Roadster originates from the production year 2000 and was first registered for road traffic in Japan on 14. 03. 2002. It has benefited from all model-year updates. In total, 875 Roadsters with 3-litre displacement, automatic transmission and left-hand drive for all markets outside North America were produced, of which 286 were in Titanium Silver and 29 in the configuration presented here. It is accident-free and in pristine condition. The mileage is 38, 200 km and verifiable. It has a nice classic colour combination; the paint is Titanium Silver, the interior leather is Tanin-Red-Black (full leather). A tonneau cover is included as well as the wind deflector. A BMW Becker navigation system, a strut brace and 17" cross-spoke wheels with near-new mixed tyres are fitted. With its 231 hp 3. 0 L 6‑cylinder engine (M54) it still offers very sporty performance by today’s standards and, thanks to the fitted 5‑speed automatic with Steptronic from ZF, the roadster is easy to drive; top speed is 236 km/ h, 0–100 km/ h takes 6. 3 s and peak power is reached at 6, 500 rpm. The M54 naturally aspirated engine runs silkily, revs turbine-like and has earned a reputation as a motor of the century. The BMW was imported to Germany in 2016 and has since been meticulously cared for. A Classic Data appraisal assigns the roadster an overall condition grade of 2+. It has just received a new BMW rear screen in the soft top, fresh TÜV and a service, so it is fit for its next owner.
