"Since its launch in 1999, the Porsche 911 GT3 has been the benchmark against which every other track-focused car has been rated. There are more powerful, more expensive 911s, but the GT3 represents the sports car at its purest and most intense. In fact, all four generations of GT3 arguably rank alongside 1973's legendary 2. 7 RS in the annals of greatest 911s." - Auto Express.
For 2006 the GT3 was extensively redesigned and improved on the Type 997 platform. New features included 'zero lift' aerodynamics and Porsche's PASM electronically adjustable active suspension system specially configured for track use. Porsche claimed a 0-60mph time of 4. 1 seconds and a top speed of 193km/ h for the new GT3. By the end of the of year there was also an RS 'homologation special'. Weight-saving measures similar to those seen on the Type 996 RS were applied, while the body was wider than that of the Type 997 GT3, accommodating an increase in rear track.
As installed in the Type 997 GT3 Cup S, the 3. 6-litre engine was fundamentally the same as that used in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and the international Carrera Cup championships. Courtesy of revised electronics and a modified exhaust system, maximum power output was now 440bhp and there was a commensurate increase in torque. The Cup S braking system was uprated appropriately to cope with the increased power.
Unlike that of the regular GT3 Cup, the Cup S body was not based on the road-going GT3 but on the GT3 RS. Among many noticeable differences were wider wheelarches accommodating considerably larger wheels: 10. 5" wide at the front and 12. 0" at the rear, while an adjustable front splitter and a wider and higher rear wing generated more downforce than those of the GT3 Cup. Several GT3 Cup S suspension components were taken from the more powerful GT3 RSR GT2-class international endurance racer.
This rare and desirable Porsche competition car comes with its DMSB Wagenpass listing all races contested, commencing on 9th May 2008 and ending on 20th November 2011. Circuits visited include Oschersleben, Nürburgring, Lausitzring, Sachsenring, Brno, Monza, Imola, Misano and the Red Bull Ring. Please note that this car has not been run since its acquisition by the Keller Brothers' Collection more than 10 years ago. No attempt has been made to start it and it is sold strictly as seen. It is offered with two full sets of wheels and tires, to be collected at the vendors' premises at the buyer's expense.
