The Hungarian traditional marque Csepel traces back to the "Manfréd Weiss Stahl- und Metallwerke AG Csepel" Austria-Hungary, founded by entrepreneur Manfréd Baron Weiss von Csepel in 1911. The company developed rapidly and soon became the largest arms factory of Austria-Hungary. After the costly turmoil of the Hungarian-Romanian War in 1919, Weiss also founded an aircraft factory. By 1922 he already employed 10, 000 people again. In 1939 motorcycle production began in large quantities, initially a 100 cc model, then a 125 cc and a 250 cc model under the brand name "Csepel". When the German Wehrmacht occupied Hungary in 1944, the Weiss family was dispossessed and the SS took over the works with a total of 40, 000 employees. During World War II the motorcycle factory was unfortunately destroyed.
From 1947 the reopened works were converted into a state enterprise. In the same year motorcycle production was able to resume initially in the form of a 100 cc model. From 1954 the 250 cc motorcycles built at the "Csepel Motorkerékpárgyár" were sold under the name Pannonia. At the same time production of the Csepel 125 cc motorcycle offered here led to the name of the works being changed to the "Danuvia Szerszámgépgyár" (Danuvia Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik). In 1960 they celebrated the delivery of the one-millionth motorcycle! Csepel motorcycles were exported to many countries around the world. They even established a foothold on the American market under the brand name "White Motorcycles".
The motorcycle presented here is original, complete and unchanged. It is in exceptionally good condition. The paintwork is very good, as are the chrome parts.
