The 1970 911 S shows the constant improvements Porsche made to its most performance-oriented sports car. The previous year the 911’s wheelbase had been lengthened by about 2. 5 inches to improve balance and handling. With the engine power increased to 180 horsepower, thanks to larger valves and better breathing, a larger 225mm clutch was required. The interiors were also updated, with a new ignition lock and instruments mounted on rubber rings. Externally, the new, safer door handles replaced the previous push-button type, and for the first time cars were delivered with full factory upholstery. Braking power came from 11. 1-inch ventilated front discs and 11. 4-inch ventilated rear discs, which proved more than adequate for a 2, 400‑lb car. It was also capable of sprinting from rest to 60 mph in just over seven seconds, reaching 100 mph in only 20 seconds and topping out at 144 mph. Few cars of the era could match its exhilarating performance. It would be hard to find a 1970 Porsche 911 S more beautiful than the example shown here, No. 1643 out of only 1, 744 built for the 1970 model year. It was found by previous owners complete and intact in a Northern Italy garage, where it remained for 20 years. Soon after purchase, it was completely stripped and rebuilt to factory specifications over two years by a renowned marque specialist. The work included a high-quality repaint in the original colour 018 Tangerine, while the suspension and other components were powder-coated. The interior was preserved as a 1970 factory Porsche, aluminium trim was polished and the original smoked glass was reinstalled. Mechanically, the original 2, 195 cc six-cylinder Type 911/ 02 engine and the Type 911/ 01 transmission were fully rebuilt and the engine bay returned to factory appearance. The forged alloy Fuchs wheels 6×15 were polished and refinished and suspension parts, such as shock absorbers, tie-rod ends, ball joints and bushings, were replaced, where necessary, with new, correct parts.
This handsome example of a highly sought-after model comes with the spare wheel and a collapsible spare, the toolkit, the user manual and the restoration photo album.
