We are delighted to present for sale this 1966 (World Cup Winner!) Series 2a Land Rover, finished in the Marine Blue colour scheme with Limestone Wheels – a popular choice, with lots of period features.
Externally, as the photos show, this really is a pretty Series 2a Land Rover – the 750 chevron tyres for extra gearing with matching bonnet mounted spare, the wing top mounted mirrors, vintage number plates, rear grab handles, recent canvas, new end caps, etc etc – at JB 4×4 HQ we prefer to stick to the facts & avoid flowery language… but we do very much think a prospective customer would be hard-pressed to find a better looking Series 2a with the sympathetic culmination of period features and uprated extras to make things easier – even down to the fresh galvanised front bumper to complete the look. We’ve presented the vehicle for these shots in “rolled up” mode – sides and rear – this we find is often the best way to drive them around on a weekend in just about every season – but of course, these can be rolled down to create an enclosed interior and keep the warmth in.
On the inside, there are three front recent standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is nice to see many of the original features remain such as the twin individual wiper motors, and the heater with front de-mist for the windscreen, which is very welcome in the current colder weather. The rear is unfitted but twin bench seats can be fitted for £595 – this would give seating for seven people including the driver – the rear has a floor mat to protect against scratches and some tailgate chain covers to stop them rattling whilst driving along, which is a nice touch. There are no nasty additions here and that is really just how we like to see these.
Out on the road, this Series 2a Land Rover delivers a pleasing period-enhanced drive – with parabolic springs bringing a much superior ride to standard leaf springs, and larger 750×16 chevron tyres giving longer gearing ratios for both more relaxed cruising and improved fuel economy. They are also self cleaning and directional, with a large side wall – so if you do plan to take this off road for a shoot, on the farm, or just down the gravel track or wooded lane – you won’t get stuck! With the canvas up, the shades on (alongside the beanie hat of course) – no matter if it is 25 degrees or 5 degrees – this is a memorable and enjoyable driving machine.
In summary then – if you are looking for a Series 2a which benefits from MOT & Tax Exemption, Classic insurances and a major mechanical in-house warranty – no matter what you plan to use it for – then this has to be worth considering. We sometimes find that saying less on our vehicles can work both in our favour and to our detriment – depending on the client… be under no illusions – this is a very pretty Series 2a Land Rover which would be an ideal machine for any family as a trusted friend or to trundle along to your local pub or car show on a weekend.
