In 1978, Chevrolet celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Corvette with a two-tone “silver anniversary edition.” It was the first time a Corvette was used as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 race, which was the 62nd edition and was held on May 28, 1978. Chevrolet built a total of 6, 502 units of this edition, and this stunning car, which we are offering on behalf of the owner, is one of them. It can safely be called a unique item, as this “matching numbers” car has only 12, 340 miles on the odometer and is in top original condition. Under the long black hood is the 5. 7-liter L48 V8 engine, which is linked to a three-speed automatic transmission. This so-called small block delivers 185 hp, giving the car a top speed of 190 km/ h.
The owner purchased this Corvette from Dutch Corvette specialist Andre Boer, a company that is well known in the Corvette scene. An interesting detail about this car is that it was on display in Germany, in the famous Technik Museum Sinsheim. There, it was part of an exhibition featuring several pace car models from various years of manufacture. It is not only the low mileage that makes this car special, but also its high degree of originality, such as the original paintwork and interior, which is in perfect condition. This car is a welcome addition to any collection, and we invite you to come and see it in our showroom.
