WHAT THE OWNER OF FORMOSA CARS TOLD ME.
The Formosa concept is a fibreglass bodyshell supplied in a few different styles with interchangeable front sections that can create various wheelbases. This enables the body to be fitted to a variety of classic car chassis as well as various existing kit car chassis.
This particular example was fitted to a Locost super 7 style car about 4 years ago . It was supplied by the customer as a complete unit and the original bodywork was removed, an additional subframe section created to widen the cockpit area and to support the new body.
The Locost had been built to accommodate a taller driver and was 99” wheelbase instead of the traditional 93-94” they usually come as … this was perfect for our 120GR long nose to fit .
So except for the additional subframe and the 16” Aston Martin wire wheels, the underneath is Locost .
The body is a virtually stock 120GR from the mould. The arches were radiused further to accommodate the larger wheels and the new and old sections were joined with various aluminium panels to complete the marriage of the two and give it a 1950s race car feel.
The colour is a later 80s or 90s Maserati colour, I believe.
The Maserati badges and livery was fitted by the owner.
Seats are Porsche 356 from memory trimmed similar to the GT40s etc.
I think the engine is a Zetec running bike carburettors from memory and a type 9 gearbox . Steering column will be Triumph Vitesse .
