Having established its performance credentials with a succession of big three-cylinder sports bikes during the 1970s, most notably the fire-breathing Jota, Laverda emerged from a succession of financial upheavals with a new range of machines for the 1990s. The first of these was the 650 Sport, which used a 668cc development of the old Alpino '500' 8-valve twin-cylinder engine housed in a state-of-the-art aluminium twin-spar chassis designed by frame and suspension guru, Nico Bakker.
A revised 668 Sportster followed (using the same engine) and then in 1997 the 750S arrived featuring a new water-cooled 747cc motor. "We've waited 20 years for a bike worthy of the Jota 1000's heritage," declared Bike magazine. "And here it is with a stack of components like a Superbike mechanic's lottery win shopping list. This is class." 'Class' meant upside-down Paoli forks and rear shock; Brembo Goldline brakes with braided hoses; lightweight Marchesini wheels; stainless-steel Termignoni exhaust pipes; and carbon-fibre front mudguard and heel protectors. Equally importantly, the six-speed gearbox frequently criticised in the past had at last been sorted.
This Laverda 750S was purchased by the late owner in March 2019 from Jemspeedshop of Batley and has been dry stored in dedicated accommodation since then. The current recorded mileage is 16, 478 but no previous history is known. The Laverda is offered from a private collection of motorcycles which were run regularly up to 2022 when the late owner's ill health prevented any further work or use. All of the machines were purchased from dealers and had been fully serviced prior to joining the collection. None have been ridden since they were confined to storage apart from a short trip to a local show where they were displayed. Like the rest of the collection, the Laverda will require recommissioning before further use and thus is sold strictly as viewed. It should be noted that a new battery is required and that the 40amp fuse may be faulty. The machine is offered with a V5C Registration Certificate; the 2019 purchase receipt; some expired MoTs; a maintenance manual; and a Laverda 750S wiring modification instructions.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/ or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
