The Alfa Romeo Spider, commonly called the Duetto, is a car produced from 1966 to 1993. One of the best-known and longest-serving models in the history of the famous Milanese car maker. Twenty-eight years of uninterrupted production. Its stylistic basis originated from a design team at Pininfarina led by Aldo Brovarone and overseen by Franco Martinengo. The sketch immediately gained approval from Alfa Romeo management. Some refinements, such as the carpeting and the construction of the grille, were continually overseen by Battista Pininfarina, who personally made dozens of small changes, resulting in a masterpiece. It was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show on 10 March 1966. It is the last car born under the protection of the founder of Pininfarina, who died a few weeks later. In 1967, it gained popularity; the Duetto became the car in the film The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman. “Duetto” means “harmony between grace and strength,” just like harmony in a couple in love. This version features new, more enveloping bumpers and a shortened tail with larger rear lights, plus a black plastic rear spoiler. The steering wheel is burr walnut, the instrument cluster has separate “eyelids” for the speedometer and tachometer, the central tunnel houses fuel gauge, oil pressure, and coolant temperature, and the instrument panel includes a single eyelid that can also accommodate secondary instruments given the increased capacity, with additional air vents, model-specific black plastic mirrors, and matching trim. Seats are more supportive, red carpeting on the floor, and it was produced in only two colours: Alfa Red and Metallic Grey. Spider Quadrifoglio Verde… sporty yet elegant, spirited yet courteous, simply the Duetto.
