SAMAS is the acronym for SOCIETÀ ALBESE MECCANICA SPECIAL VEHICLES
The Samas Yeti, produced from 1971 to 1975, is a true miniature off-roader. A rugged and pure 4×4 just over three metres long, quite rare.
The Samas Yeti officially came to light in 1971 but is nothing more than a revised and corrected version of a four-wheel-drive vehicle built three years earlier by Delta Veicoli Speciali and by the same designer of the Ferves Ranger. Even more compact than its predecessor (3. 10 metres long versus 3. 24) yet still able to accommodate five occupants, it is aesthetically distinguished by a more graceful design.
The most important technical difference between the 1971 Samas Yeti and Delta's 1968 project concerns the Fiat 127 903 cc engine adopted in place of the more obsolete 843 cc of the 850.
The small Samas Yeti can reach a top speed of 100 km/ h and would travel 12 km/ l of petrol (3 litres per hour off-road).
True off-roader: four-wheel drive (engageable on command on the front axle with optional locking) with a lockable rear differential, four-speed gearbox with reduction and power take-off on demand, four-wheel independent suspension, 100% approach angle under full load and 80% lateral inclination. Not to be underestimated, also the four steering wheels: steering can be engaged via a lever even on the rear wheels with low gears engaged. A solution that guarantees a minimum turning circle of just 2. 90 metres.
A characteristic that it shares with a work vehicle, besides its innate capabilities, is the presence of an hour meter instead of an odometer.
