Description
The Opel Kadett GTE GR. A. is one of the most iconic cars in Portuguese rallying in the early 1980s, renowned for its efficiency and balance in technical events. Based on a lightweight and very well-tuned chassis, it was a frequent choice for private drivers who prioritized reliability and consistency in demanding rallies and hill climbs.
This particular model uses a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, developing around 120 horsepower, a typical Group A configuration of the time. Rear-wheel drive, combined with low weight and a very competent chassis, allowed it to successfully compete with larger displacement cars. The short-ratio manual gearbox follows the classic dog-leg design, with first gear to the rear instead of second.
The car features preparation suitable for rally use, including OMP bucket seats, a roll bar, and other safety and competition-oriented elements.
The sporting career of this Kadett began at the 1980 Figueira da Foz Rally, where it achieved 10th place overall and 4th in Group 2. In the same year, it participated in the Serra da Estrela International Rally, finishing 2nd in the National Group A, confirming the competitiveness of the car. It also participated 3 times in the Rally of Portugal.
With (Peqepê) at the wheel, this Kadett GTE achieved remarkable results. It participated in the 1984 Camellia Rally, where it won Group A and finished 3rd overall, surpassing all its direct class competitors.
Today, this Opel Kadett GTE represents a rare opportunity for those seeking a genuine rally car with a consistent competitive history, relevant overall rankings, and high collectible value.
