Daimler Six (XJ40): A Swiss-Spec Masterpiece
We are huge fans of everything that rolled out of the Coventry factory back in the day—especially the special editions and exceptional color combinations.
On May 31, 1991, a certain Dr. Heinz Ruch from the beautiful town of Biel decided to do things a little differently. He chose the ultimate British paint color for his XJ40: British Racing Green. But instead of the usual black or beige, he opted for a Cherry Red leather interior with Dark Green piping. In a word: magnificent! We were fortunate enough to get our hands on this incredibly characterful Daimler Six.
Condition of the Car
The paintwork is in lovely condition and virtually rust-free. That is the distinct advantage of Swiss cars; they don't deal with road salt in the same way, meaning these vehicles remain exceptionally well-preserved—provided they were even driven during the winter at all. The leather remains tidy, vibrant in color, and fresh.
The Drive
It is a true pleasure to experience that old, reliable Jaguar/ Daimler engineering again. These AJ6 engines are essentially bulletproof, provided they receive the proper maintenance. In fact, the successor (the X300) used an evolved version of this very same engine—a testament to its solid, trouble-free design.
This Daimler is equipped with Self-Leveling Suspension (SLS), which takes ride comfort to an entirely different level. The automatic gearbox, brakes, engine, and handling are all in excellent order on this beautiful specimen.
Maintenance & History
The XJ40 comes with a partially stamped service booklet and the Swiss Abgas (emissions) document, which further confirms that the mileage of this Daimler is highly plausible.
