Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 12th March on Thursday the 12th of March. Background:
MGB Sebring racers were specialised, lightweight competition versions of the MGB and MGC GT developed by the BMC Competitions Department in Abingdon for the 12 Hours of Sebring in the 1960s, MG having already established that the success of their MGA competition cars in earlier years led to a distinct improvement in sales of their road cars in the US. The MGB GTS (four-cylinder) and the later MGC GTS (three-litre six-cylinder) featured aluminium panels, flared arches and tuned engines, achieving significant success, including a 1964 class win and high-ranking finishes in 1967 and 1969 with one team (Hopkirk/ Hedges) placing 15th overall.

Although many competition cars from the sixties and seventies would look out of place today, the Sebring BGT's distinctive looks with its flared arches, louvres, vents, big wheels and lowered stance still looks topical and remains desirable.
The Car:First registered in 1968, this overdrive-equipped MGB GT was converted to Sebring specification in 2015, giving the car the distinctive visual presence associated with the well-known competition-inspired style.
It was built as a fast-road homage to the GTS that could also be enjoyed on Club Rallies and Regularity Runs with Sebring mods including an MGC bonnet, flared arches, wide competition wire wheels, suspension upgrades, revised front grille, de-bumpered, modified front valance with brake cooling ducts, Perspex headlamp covers, bonnet pins, Speedwell mirrors and a Sebring-style fuel filler. Competition-related equipment include a Safety Devices roll-cage, lightweight bucket seats, TRS full harnesses, Lifeline fire extinguisher, Mountney wheel, bespoke switch panel with ignition cut-off (and external), internal fuses, Brantz 2 S Pro Rally Meter with remote, and a navigator's map light. Apart from K & N pancake filters we believe the engine is standard allowing a younger member of the family to get insured
It's finished in Heritage Racing Green with white roundels and removable graphics which contribute to its purposeful stance and unmistakable road presence. The paintwork is described as exceptionally well kept and complements the car’s classic sporting character
The overall result is a distinctive and useable classic that combines the practicality of the MGB GT’s fastback design with the visual drama of Sebring styling. It captures the spirit of period competition cars while remaining suitable for enjoyable road use. A good looking homage that will be admired everywhere.
