Vehicle history:
The so-called "California Pagoda" has no soft top and no top storage box. Instead, it was delivered with a rear auxiliary bench and a hardtop as standard. This special edition has nothing to do with the US state of California, nor is it an export version. It is a paid extra option that was first offered in February 1967 with Price List No. 18 for the 250 and 280 SL. This followed a study of the version, which was presented to the Mercedes-Benz board on 03/ 09/ 1965. It was intended to meet the many customers’ wish for a two-seat coupé with two extra emergency seats. Many California Pagodas were purchased as a second or third car and driven sparingly at that time. As a result, a large proportion are today in exceptionally good condition. This very handsome Pagoda was imported back to Germany from the USA in 2012. The current owner, a skilled Mercedes‑Benz master technician and enthusiast, restored the vehicle for himself and spared no expense or effort. In 2013 he welcomed the Pagoda to himself and spent 13 wonderful years with it. Today the vehicle is available to the new owner in very good maintenance and care condition.
