Description
Key Aspects of the Opel 200tS: Homologation special only 500 made in the world ( 350 Kadetts and 150 Astra models )
Production: Developed locally in South Africa, often referred to as the Opel Kadett/ Astra 200tS.
Engine: Used the German-imported 2. 0L C20LET engine, commonly found in the all-wheel-drive Opel Calibra, but front-wheel drive in the Kadett.
Performance: The 160 kW turbocharged engine allowed a top speed of roughly 235-240 km/ h, this for the early models with the Coscast head and later reduced to 150 kW models with the GM head and better cooling system.
Drivetrain & Handling: It featured a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential (LSD) to manage high torque, which was often overwhelming for the front-wheel-drive setup.
Legacy: Known for its "dangerous" speed in its era, it was a direct competitor to the Volkswagen Golf VR6.
Modification: Due to its robust engine, many surviving units have been heavily modified, with some tuned to over 350 kW
