Description
The bodywork received a full restoration in the mid-2000’s with lead loading and a bare metal re-paint and years later still offers a fantastic finish. The interior has been completely retrimmed, all woodwork has been re-veneered, and the car received a complete rechrome together with new wheels. Along with various mechanical work covering a full brake overhaul and new stainless steel exhaust system, the restoration is understood to have exceeded 1, 000 hours. Following the restoration the car featured on the cover and in an eight-page article in Jaguar World Magazine in July 2008 detailing how to look after a MKII. In 2009, the 3. 8-litre XK engine was upgraded to Coombs specification by Team Classic & Thoroughbred, who are known for the quality engine work. Work included fitting an E-Type cylinder head, high-compression pistons, larger carburettors, a crankshaft re-ground, a lightened flywheel and harmonic dampener – transforming the car into a notably more potent and responsive performer while retaining its period character. Since the restoration, the MKII has covered less than 5000 miles and many photos document the work carried out.
More recently, in 2021, the MKII was brought to our classic car workshop Malton Coachworks for a refresh. The front suspension has been comprehensively overhauled with new bushes on all multi-link arms, new anti-roll bar, new brake discs and pads for the front and rear, and the car was fitted with a full new set of Avon tyres and tubes to the tune of £4, 200. Whilst with is, our trim department fitted a brand-new wool headlining. The result is a superbly presented MKII that combines striking good looks with enhanced performance and impressive usability. Powered by the upgraded 3. 8-litre straight-six engine mated to a four-speed manual Moss gearbox with overdrive, it delivers the classic Jaguar blend of effortless cruising ability and genuine sporting character.
