Bodywork / Exterior:
The model shown here is a Mercedes 280 SL from September 1994 in its original “Imperial Red” colour.
The exterior bodywork is in very good presentation condition.
After a professional polish with orbital machine by our workshop, we noted a few defects corrected on the rear bumper and bonnet.
The paint depth and gloss are excellent.
This example is equipped with its original hard top in “Imperial Red” colour.
It is in very good condition despite a minor scratch on the right side.
The original bumpers are perfectly aligned and in good condition, with no dents, deformations or cracks.
The electric mohair hood in colour “Schwarz” operates perfectly.
It is in very good presentation condition.
The rear window micas are in excellent condition with no dulling, yellowing or scratches.
The 4 original 16” aluminium MERCEDES wheels are in good condition, with no curb damage or deformations.
The clearcoat shows a few scratches around the outer edges. The right rear wheel shows a small gloss loss on the MERCEDES logo.
The 4 KLEBER Dynaxer HP4 tyres show 30% wear at the front and rear.
This example retains its original 16” spare wheel, jack and toolkit.
Among the notable exterior equipment and options, we note:

Interior:
The interior is in very good overall condition.
Beige leather upholstery is in very good original condition.
The driver seat has some light cracking and some wear at the belt path.
The passenger seat also shows light cracking.
The rear seats in beige leatherette are in very good original condition.
Beige leather door panels are in very good condition.
Electric seats operate perfectly.
The dashboard and beige faux leather cap are in very good original condition.
The whole shows no deformation or discolouration.
The original 4-spoke leather Mercedes steering wheel in black is in good presentation condition with a slight patina from use.
The wood veneer on the central console is in very good condition.
The leather-wrapped gear knob is in excellent original condition.
The VDO instrument cluster and Sony CD/ USB radio are fully functional.
The original radio antenna deploys manually.
We noted a slight crack in the driver’s door speaker.
Note: the original air conditioning and central locking are no longer functional.
The beige carpet shows no major wear, snags or discolouration.
Among the interior equipment and options of interest, we note:
Electric seats and Sony CD/ USB radio.
Chassis:
Raising on the ramp confirms a sound shell with no visible accident damage or structural corrosion.
Fundamentals: sills, wing lower panels, wheel arches, floors and longitudinals are in excellent condition.
Usage reserve: by principle we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond their good visual and functional condition validated on road test and on the ramp.
During the dynamic test, no abnormal creaking or noises were detected from the body or suspension components (ball joints, bushings, etc.).
Braking is aligned, stable and compliant with the era’s standards.
Front brake discs show 40% wear; rear 30% wear.
Front brake pads 30% wear; rear 40% wear.
The technical inspection carried out by our workshop prior to delivery will also confirm the overall functionality.
Engine / Transmission:
The original MERCEDES maintenance book records regular servicing at MERCEDES centres and by marque specialists.
The mechanicals run perfectly.
The road test by our workshop confirms a healthy six-cylinder engine.
Starting is easy with no smoke or abnormal noises, and idle is stable as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running at the start of the slideshow.
Cold oil pressure is 3 bar at 900 rpm.
Hot oil pressure is 3 bar at 800 rpm.
Once at temperature, the engine revs cleanly with no hiccups.
The manual gearbox – a rare configuration for this generation – shifts smoothly through all five gears with no unusual noises.
As is common with these models, engine, gearbox and diff seals are average.
This example is fitted with a battery cut-off switch.
