One of 32 “Sport” Cabriolet A
Matching Numbers
Previous owner: Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands
In 1936, the Model 500 K was replaced by the Model 540 K, which, with a displacement of 5. 4 liters (180 hp with supercharger), offered even more power and elasticity.
While the standard 540 K Cabriolet A featured side-mounted spare wheels and a conventionally positioned radiator on the front axle, Daimler-Benz also produced a special model, the 540 K Sport Cabriolet A, with a longer, particularly elegant body. In this model, the radiator was positioned 16 cm behind the front axle, and the spare wheels were mounted at the rear. Only 32 examples of this attractive 540 K Sport Cabriolet A were ever built.
Our vehicle was originally delivered new to Stahlwerk GmbH Düsseldorf and was later owned for many years by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. Extensive restoration work was carried out some time ago at Daimler-Benz in Germany.
