Best known as one of the world's foremost tyre manufacturers, Bridgestone built complete motorcycles between 1958 and the early 1970s, establishing an unrivalled reputation for design innovation and engineering excellence. Bill Smith was the UK's official Bridgestone importer, bringing in around 1, 200 models of all types in the late 1960s. Bridgestone built two-stroke motorcycles only and disc-valve induction would become a company hallmark, the first such model being the single-cylinder 90cc Sport of 1964. The '90' had a class-leading maximum output of 8. 8bhp at 8, 000rpm – good enough for a claimed top speed of 65mph – and weighed in at around 174lb (dry).
This example is offered for restoration, minus its exhaust system, and is sold strictly as viewed. The odometer reading is 1 kilometre. The engine number has not been located (our vendor refers to '14Q007177'). Offered without key (for tool box).
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/ or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
£2, 500 - 3, 500
All lots are sold ‘as is/ where is’ and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
