After the First World War, Clyno returned to civilian motorcycle production and introduced a new range of machines. The Model IV was their lightweight 2½ hp machine, aimed at riders who wanted an economical, practical solo motorcycle at a time when Britain was flooded with cheap surplus military bikes
The 1919 Clynos were quite advanced in appearance compared with many pre-war machines. Contemporary reports commented on their strong construction, high ground clearance, substantial frame design, and attention to accessibility for maintenance. Clyno's wartime experience building heavy-duty military motorcycles influenced their civilian engineering
This example was only on the road for some ten years, before being retired to a shed, where it languished for some 50 years. Rescued by our vendor in 1978 and underwent a painstaking five year restoration, having deteriorated whilst in storage. The bike was fully restored yet remains entirely original with only the tyres and inner tubes being replaced (the original inner tubes are supplied!). The decals, which were hand painted on the tank, remain in superb condition, despite the passage of time and it still wears its original registration number
Supplied with a period photo album, the current V5C (correctly classed as Historic), old MOTs, lots of Clyno information and some charming correspondence from the last owner
The bike has been well used by our vendor on club runs, though not recently, but is reported as running and riding well prior and our vendor is only selling as his road riding days are behind him
