Description
The 488 Pista Piloti is a Tailor Made version of the 488 Pista that Ferrari unveiled on the eve of the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, as a tribute to the clients who actually race Ferraris. The car was exclusively available to participants in Ferrari's official racing programmes such as the Ferrari Challenge, Club Competizioni GT or the Corso Pilota programme. The striping is directly inspired by the AF Corse #51, the 488 GTE with which Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado won both the drivers' and constructors' titles in the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship. The Italian tricolore runs the full length of the car, from the front bumper through the S-Duct to the rear wing. The matte carbon fibre finish and the WEC laurel wreath on the rear wing are exclusive to the Piloti. Inside, Alcantara with the Italian flag woven into the seats, gearshift paddles and floor mats. Customers could have their own personal race number applied to the bodywork and steering wheel.
The 3. 9 litre twin-turbo V8 produces 720 ps at 8, 000 rpm and 770 Nm, voted best engine in the world for three consecutive years. The Pista is 90 kg lighter than the 488 GTB through carbon fibre body panels, a lithium-ion battery and a lighter exhaust. The S-Duct, an aerodynamic channel that routes air through the nose upward to generate additional downforce on the front axle, was applied by Ferrari for the first time on a production car with the Pista. This example is finished in Blu Tour De France 70, one of the four colours available for the Piloti, each referencing a legendary Ferrari race venue.
Fun fact: Pier Guidi and Calado won the 2017 WEC championship with the #51. Le Mans itself they did not win until 2019 and 2021. The Piloti honours the championship, not a specific Le Mans victory.
