Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic 2026 - Competition Cars on Friday the 24th of July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. Constructed in 2000 using a sound Mk1 bodyshell, this impressive Mini enjoyed continuous competition use until 2022 when Colin Flynn retired from racing. During its active career, the car achieved numerous class victories within the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC), establishing itself as a proven and capable front-running contender.
Eligible for a wide variety of prestigious historic racing series, the Mini is suitable for the HSCC Historic Saloons Championship, Classic Sports Car Club Swinging Sixties, Classic Touring Car Racing Club Pre-66 category and the ever-popular HRDC Touring Greats and Top Hat championships, in addition to numerous regional and invitational events. Finished in the period-correct combination of Almond Green with an Old English White roof, the car has been preserved rather than cosmetically restored. Unlike many historic racers presented in freshly rebuilt condition, this example wears the marks acquired during years of close competition with honesty, reflecting an active and successful competition career.
The specification is suitably comprehensive. The all-steel bodyshell is fitted with Perspex side and rear windows, while the cockpit features a full bolt-in roll cage complete with optional belt bars. A brand new Atech competition seat and harness were installed in 2026. The electrical system has also benefited from extensive recent attention, including a new wiring loom, new Swiftune switch panel, fully fused and relayed circuitry, dashboard-mounted fuse box, new alternator and bracket, and a Varley Red Top race battery. The works-style dashboard incorporates a genuine 130mph Cooper S speedometer.
Power is provided by a Phil Hepworth-built 1, 298cc short-stroke A-Series engine, fed by a Weber 40 carburettor. Accompanying dynamometer printouts record a peak output of 123bhp. Significantly, we understand that the engine has completed just one track day and a single Aintree Sprint since being rebuilt in circa 2020. Transmission is via a remote straight-cut dog-engagement gearbox with limited-slip differential and Mini Spares Monte Carlo driveshafts transmit power to the road.
The chassis specification includes four-*** front brake calipers with Cooper S discs, rear Cooper S drums, fully adjustable camber settings, Hi-Lo suspension components and a rear anti-roll bar. Further equipment includes an AH Fabrications long-range alloy fuel cell, competition exhaust system and Minilite alloy wheels shod with historic regulation Dunlop CR65 tyres.
Road registered and accompanied by its V5C, the Mini is offered with an extensive spares package comprising three additional Minilite wheels fitted with CR65 tyres, a 12G940 cylinder head requiring rebuild, a freshly painted Mk1 bootlid, alloy radiator, alloy oil cooler, spare alternator, ignition components, filters, spark plugs, competition consumables and numerous ancillary items.
As with any competition car, interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the currency and eligibility of any safety-related equipment (seats, belts, cage, tank, extinguisher, cut-outs etc.)
Fully prepared and ready to compete, this proven and highly eligible Mini represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a front-running historic racer with established provenance and a successful competition record.
