Description
KLD 355D is a stunning example of the Volvo P1800S – a very reliable proven long-distance touring car. The P1800S is a car that holds the Guinness Book of Records Title for the highest mileage of a non-commercial passenger vehicle at 3, 260, 000 miles. We first encountered the car from a local classic car collector who brought it to our workshop for an inspection which revealed this particular P1800 is a mechanically very strong car in a well finished condition. The Volvo benefitted from a full engine rebuild in 2013. Accompanying the car is a comprehensive history file with an extensive number of invoices of expenditure and photographic records of a thorough body restoration.
The 1800S is one of the most iconic classic cars of the 1960’s bringing Swedish style into the limelight across the world. Whilst performance was modest at around 100bhp from the 1780cc, the Volvo truly outshone all other marques when it came to reliability. With the recent inspection, the wheel bearings were adjusted, new shoes and wheel cylinders were fitted on the rear and new tyres were fitted all round, the 1800 is very impressive on the road. The in-line 4-cylinder engine pulls strongly through the rev range while the 4-speed transmission feels very fit through the gears. Although it is not documented that the interior has been subject to a refresh, it presents very nicely with tidy upholstery and switchgear. Externally, it is clear to see the Volvo has been subject to a very comprehensive older body restoration and it stands as a very well-presented example capable of regular use.
