The Honda Motor Company made their first motorcycle in 1949 and within ten years had become the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, going on to make over 400 million two-wheelers as well as millions of other power products. The launch of the four-cylinder CB750 in 1969 ushered in the 1970s superbike boom, and Honda’s crowning glory of the era was the amazing inline-six CBX1000, one of very few six-cylinder motorbikes ever produced. Built from 1978 to 1982, it achieved its aim of being the world’s fastest production motorcycle thanks to its 1, 047cc, twin-cam, 24-valve transverse inline-six, which was said to produce as much as 105bhp and deliver speeds of 135mph or even 140. A true tour de force, it was detuned slightly for 1981 and became more of a sports tourer than a superbike, with softer suspension and optional panniers.
Showing 23, 382 miles, this lovely 1979 CBX1000 has had a total of eight registered keepers, with our vendor purchasing it in 2007. He proceeded to use it lightly and intermittently until just a few years ago, so some light recommissioning will be required before it goes back on the road. In generally good order with a few non-standard parts, it has the potential to be a really useable and enjoyable machine. It is supplied with the V5C.
