This Cadillac Series 62 De Luxe Convertible Coupe ranks among the most attractive open American bodies from the early 1940s. The original Fisher body plate confirms body type 41-6267D, body number 2491 and the distinctive Special Order trim code SO-3871. The Fisher plate further notes top code 5.
Beneath the bonnet sits Cadillac's 346 cubic-inch, 5. 7-litre L-head V8. This side-valve engine produces approximately 150 bhp and was developed primarily for smoothness, torque and relaxed cruising. The independent front suspension and hydraulic drum brakes made the Series 62 remarkably modern for its time.
The Cadillac is finished in deep dark red with a beige interior and matching light convertible top. The paintwork has a fine lustre and presents beautifully, though close inspection reveals light scratches, minor blemishes and localised crazing. The top likewise shows visible signs of use and age.
Many characteristic details have been preserved, including the wood-grain dashboard, original instrumentation, oil-bath air filters, various Delco-Remy components and the distinctive Body by Fisher – Interior by Fleetwood badge. The result is an authentic Cadillac that has not been over-restored.
The engine runs exceptionally quietly and smoothly, with precisely the refinement, suppleness and effortless power for which Cadillac was renowned during this period. The convertible top and operating controls also function properly.
The Cadillac was first registered on 28 February 1941. On 29 March 2016, exactly 75 years later, it was registered in the Netherlands.
The car comes with an extensive historical archive containing original documentation, correspondence and period literature. This dossier is transferred along with the car.
