Unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Salon, Aston Martin’s new V8 Vantage (codenamed ‘VH2’) looked every inch the ‘baby’ supercar thanks to master stylists Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker. A front mid-engined design with near perfect weight distribution, the two-seater was powered by a 4. 3 litre DOHC ‘dry sump’ V8 engine allied to six-speed manual transmission. With some 380bhp/ 302lbft on tap, it could exceed 170mph. A larger 4. 7 litre unit arrived three years later and the ‘VH2’ was revised for a final time in February 2012. Known as the ‘MY2012. 25’, the facelift encompassed cosmetic and mechanical changes. Inspired by Aston Martin Racing’s GT4 and GT3 programmes, the standard V8 Vantage gained new front / rear bumpers and sideskirts which aped its racier ‘S’ sibling. The latter also donated its Prodrive-developed ‘SportShift II’ seven-speed robotised manual transmission (although a three pedal set-up remained available), sharper steering, uprated brakes and wider 19-inch wheels / tyres. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 4. 7 seconds and 180mph, total pre- and post MY2012. 25 Coupe production amounted to just 5, 215 cars worldwide.
Finished stunning Meteorite Silver with the desirable chrome grille insert and clear LED rear lights (a c.£2, 000 upgrade), ‘LJ62 FFE’ was supplied new via Stratstone of Mayfair. Warranted to have covered a modest 60, 000 miles (with eleven corroborating service stamps), the Aston Martin sports a Piano Black centre console, Garmin satnav, Alcantara headlining, Obsidian Black leather memory seats, recently renewed Goodyear Eagle rear tyres and the ‘SportShift II’ gearbox. Riding on 10-spoke alloy wheels, the V8 Vantage started readily and ran well during our recent photography session. A modern classic with what some deem to be a more soulful engine than the Mercedes-Benz AMG twin-turbo unit found in its successors, ‘LJ62 FFE’ is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, three keys (two ‘crystal ECUs’ and the all-important service one), ContiMobilityKit, leather-bound owner’s manual / service book, Aston Martin dashboard pen and ‘no advisories’ MOT certificate valid until August 2027.
