Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 27th August on Thursday the 27th of August. Background: Launched in 2013, the seventh-generation Golf R combined serious performance with the understated appearance and everyday practicality for which Volkswagen's fastest Golfs have become known. Powered by a turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder engine producing 300PS in standard form and driving all four wheels through Volkswagen's 4MOTION system, the Mk7 R offered considerable performance and traction without shouting about it. Its combination of a strong turbocharged engine and capable chassis also provided an excellent basis for further development, with the model quickly attracting the attention of established performance specialists. The Car: Dating from 2016, this Golf R is finished in Deep Black Pearlescent over an all-black leather interior and has covered 87, 754 miles. Its discreet appearance gives little indication of the upgrades beneath the surface, with our vendor quoting an output of over 400bhp. The additional performance is centred around a REVO Stage 2 remap, complemented by a REVO carbon-fibre air intake and airbox, REVO intercooler and enlarged turbo pipework. Importantly, we are advised that all of the REVO upgrades were carried out by a REVO-approved dealer. A Scorpion downpipe exhaust system with sports/ racing catalytic converter has also been fitted. To accommodate the additional performance, the clutch has been uprated and a short-shift gear change mechanism fitted. Fully adjustable KW suspension has been fitted all round, providing adjustment for both ride height and damping. The car now sits slightly lower than standard having been set up for road use, retaining a comfortable ride. The braking system has been substantially upgraded with six-*** Brembo front calipers and 380mm RDD two-piece rotors, complemented by Brembo rear components with 310mm discs, based on new components. The car sits on 19-inch Volkswagen Pretoria alloy wheels, currently fitted with a new set of Bridgestone Potenza tyres which, we believe have covered around 30 miles. For clarity, the modifications and upgrades declared by the vendor include: REVO Stage 2 remap, with over 400bhp REVO carbon-fibre air intake and airbox REVO intercooler and enlarged turbo pipework Uprated clutch and short-shift mechanism Scorpion downpipe exhaust system with sports/ racing catalytic converter Fully adjustable KW suspension Six-*** Brembo front calipers with 380mm RDD two-piece rotors Brembo rear braking upgrade with 310mm discs 19-inch Volkswagen Pretoria alloy wheels Bridgestone Potenza tyres Slightly darker rear window tint Another interesting feature is the fitment of Volkswagen's Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display, unusual on a 2016 example, and the onboard satellite-navigation system has also received updated mapping and firmware. The Golf is accompanied by an extensive and particularly well-documented service history, together with a substantial collection of receipts supporting the maintenance and modifications carried out over the years and its original Volkswagen presentation box set as supplied when new. Condition: Considering its indicated mileage, the Golf presents well. Its black exterior retains the discreet appearance of the standard Golf R, albeit sitting slightly lower courtesy of the adjustable KW suspension. Inside, the all-black leather interior is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition for the mileage, with the seat bolsters showing very little evidence of wear. It also retains its original Volkswagen floor mats, which are reported to remain in very good condition. This is clearly not an example for those seeking a completely standard Golf R. Instead, it has been comprehensively upgraded, with attention paid not only to increasing engine output but also to the clutch, suspension and braking systems. The REVO work is reported to have been completed by an approved dealer, whilst the extensive collection of invoices and receipts provides supporting documentation for the maintenance and modifications carried out. With over 400bhp, substantial chassis and braking upgrades and an extensive history file, this discreet Mk7 Golf R offers an interesting take on Volkswagen's accomplished performance hatchback. It will also be freshly serviced prior to the sale. Offered through our Iconic Online Sale, prospective bidders are encouraged to study the accompanying history file, invoices, photographs and condition information and to satisfy themselves as to the car's specification, condition, modifications and quoted power output prior to bidding.
