The Mercedes-Benz W123 200 D was not built to set performance records, but rather on the basis of exceptionally solid engineering and its ability to cope with high mileage. The smooth running of its naturally aspirated diesel engine, robust chassis and functionally designed bodywork made it one of the most distinctive European saloons of its time; over 378, 000 units of the 200 D model alone were produced. This particular example was manufactured in 1980 and is fitted with a longitudinally mounted OM 615 inline four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 1, 988 cm³, mated to a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The car is well-preserved, fully functional and has a very nice overall paint finish, with only minor cosmetic imperfections commensurate with its age.
