Background:
Introduced in 1995, the E39-generation 5-Series combined the traditional attributes of a sporting BMW saloon with impressive refinement, comfort and build quality. The 530d featured BMW's 3. 0-litre turbocharge straight-six diesel, offering strong performance and impressive long-distance ability. In M Sport specification, the E39 gained a more purposeful character with lowered and stiffened suspension, distinctive 17-inch M Sport alloy wheels, sports seats, multi-function sports steering wheel and M Sport exterior detailing.
The Car:
First registered in 2002, this 530d M Sport is finished in Sterling Silver Metallic over a black leather interior and has covered just 64, 799 warranted miles from new.
Its ownership history is particularly noteworthy having been enjoyed by the same owner since 2003, when it was acquired from BMW Park Lane. The history file contains the original sales order and subsequent purchase invoice, providing useful documentary evidence of its specification at the time including an upgraded BMW entertainment system with a BMW CD changer mounted in the boot at a cost of £250. Other features include the sports multi-function steering wheel, sports seats, M Sport front bumper, discreet rear spoiler, parking sensors and distinctive 'Angel Eye' headlamps The history file is particularly comprehensive, with a fully stamped service book from new complemented by documented history and invoices accumulated throughout the years.
During this long-term ownership, the annual mileage averaged approximately 2, 500 falling to around 1, 000 over the last ten years as the owner's use diminished. Importantly, the car remained in occasional use and continued to undergo annual MOT testing. Following its more recent period of infrequent use, the BMW has undergone a comprehensive recommissioning, with attention paid to items previously noted during MOT testing, resulting in a new MOT being issued without advisories on 27th August 2026.
Recent work includes new brake discs and pads all round with front and rear pad wear sensors, four new Monroe shock absorbers, front and rear anti-roll bar links, and replacement front exhaust flexible pipes. A new undertray, wheel arch liners, door mirror glass, headlight washer nozzles and wiper blades have also been fitted, together with an engine flush and oil and filter service. Additionally, the road wheels were sent to a specialist alloy wheel company to be checked for lateral and radial runout, after which the tyres were refitted and balanced with new valves.
Invoices for this recent mechanical work and associated parts total £1, 914. 63 and our vendor advises that a further £1, 200 approximately has been spent on MOT preparation, attention to minor paint blemishes with ceramic coating and a comprehensive valet.
Condition:
The vendor describes the BMW as remaining highly original. During his long-term ownership, the records indicate that the only specific bodywork repair was to the offside front wing following a minor blemish approximately 20 years ago. The supporting invoice remains in the history file, recording £100 in labour plus paint and sundries.
The Sterling Silver Metallic exterior is complemented by the black leather M Sport interior. Whilst these M Sport models were often specified with Aluminium interior trim, this example was ordered with Burr Walnut across the dashboard and door tops, lending the cabin a more traditional executive character. .
There are some pleasing signs of completeness. It retains its 17-inch M Sport alloy wheels, with 235/ 45 tyres at the front and 255/ 40 tyres at the rear, the original full-size spare wheel with its original tyre remains unused, whilst the complete factory toolkit remains correctly located within the boot lid. Accompanying the car are the manufacturer's books, instructions and manuals in their original folder and both sets of keys.
E39 5-Series BMWs are particularly rewarding to drive and in this case, essentially single ownership since 2003, less than 65, 000 miles, a fully BMW stamped service book, comprehensive history file, recent expenditure, and a new advisory-free MOT, all add to the appeal.
