Description
The 296 GTS is the open version of the 296 GTB, and the first time since the Dino that Ferrari has put a V6 in a mid-engined sports car. That 3. 0 litre twin-turbo produces 663 ps on its own, with an electric motor bringing the total to 830 ps. The turbochargers sit inside the vee of the engine block, making the whole assembly more compact and sharpening throttle response. The hardtop roof folds away in fourteen seconds and can do so at speeds up to 45 km/ h. Rear-wheel drive, eight-speed DCT, and a chassis that gives up almost nothing in stiffness compared to the coupé.
Fun fact: the V6 revs to 8, 500 rpm, something you would not expect from a three-litre turbo engine. Ferrari refers to it internally as the piccolo V12, the little V12, because of how it sounds at high revs.
