1966 Corvette C2 Sting Ray 427 Convertible / An original
When William "Bill" Mitchell rose to become General Motors' chief designer in the early 1960s, no one in his sphere of influence could have foreseen that he would create one of the most exciting and iconic American-made sports cars: the Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray.
The short production period between 1963 and 1967 was enough to make the Corvette C2 the dream car of many petrolheads: An aggressive body design, powerful V8 engines and impressive driving characteristics ensured that the C2 not only seemed "hellishly fast even when standing still", but could also compete in motorsport with the European racing giants of its time such as Porsche, Jaguar & Co.
Production of this Chevrolet Corvette C2 Convertible, offered on behalf of the owner, began in the first half of 1966. In that model year, all Corvette C2s were offered with disc brakes all around. Originally equipped with a 427 cubic inch V8 engine (390 SAE hp) paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, this C2 Convertible was among the top versions of the model series at the time.
If one calculates the ratio of the number of Chevrolet Corvette C2 convertibles with the 427cui engine to the number of vehicles with the paint finish "Tuxedo Black" (paint code 900), then according to our research, this example with the black interior including convertible top is likely one of only about 250 examples that left the factory in St. Louis in 1966.
The overall condition of this Chevrolet Corvette C2 Convertible can be described as very well-maintained – a comprehensive restoration of both the body and the mechanical components was carried out in the 1990s. Unfortunately, as part of this restoration, the original 427cui engine was replaced with a 396cui engine from the Corvette parts bin, which in turn received an update in July 2021 with a new timing chain, head gasket, and carburetor.
The 5-digit odometer shows a mileage of approximately 44, 600 miles. A new vehicle inspection (MOT / TÜV) is already included in the asking price.
