A replica is a deliberately created (art) work that is intended to faithfully reproduce an original in its essential parts. Synonym for copy, reproduction, clone."
These words often carry a negative connotation – think of the famous cloned sheep Dolly or some recent high-profile cases of fraudulent forgery of very expensive classic cars. The latter usually involve criminal schemes where hastily and cheaply cobbled-together junk is sold at inflated prices to unsuspecting, wealthy customers.
However, if the copy or reproduction, e. g. of a painting or work of art, exhibits a high degree of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, and the potential buyer is aware that it is a copy, then a very good reproduction can often be considered to have its own high value.
In our opinion, the Ford Mustang Convertible offered here on behalf of the owner is a very well-made replica of a "Shelby Mustang Convertible":
Originating from the 1968 model year, our Ford Mustang V8 Coupé, equipped with the optional 289cui V8 engine in combination with a 3-speed automatic transmission, first made the highways in the USA unsafe.
Eventually, the extensive conversion work was carried out in the USA, after the completion of which this Ford Mustang convertible now presents itself as a "Shelby Clone" in very good condition and of course has the details that Carol Shelby intended for his originals: the famous hood with the double scoop, the wider grille with the rectangular auxiliary headlights, the roll bar, the larger taillights and much more.
A 2018 appraisal conducted in Germany highlights the very high quality of the work: paintwork and panel gaps are excellent, the engine, after being converted to 347cui, is in like-new condition, as is the interior. The replacement value is estimated in the appraisal to be in the six-figure range.
The Ford Mustang's excellent condition has remained unchanged since then, thanks to proper maintenance and care over the years.
