National Motorcycle Museum | Solihull, West Midlands Viewing: Tues 27th October from 1pm Auction: Wed 28th October from 10am Location: National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, Solihull B92 0EJ Registration No: VNP 649LFrame No: DGM59340MMOT: Exempt Desirable Laverda 750 SF1 offered as a substantially complete restoration project Engine assembled by respected Laverda specialist Steve Winterton, formerly of Slater Brothers Numerous restored components, valuable original fittings, spare parts, accompanying manuals and V5C The Laverda 750 SF1 represents an important development in the Italian manufacturer’s celebrated range of sporting parallel twins. Introduced in the early 1970s, the SF1 built upon the established 750 SF with improvements to its engine and induction system, including distinctive Dell’Orto accelerator-pump carburettors. Combining robust engineering with strong performance and distinctive Italian styling, the SF series earned an enviable reputation for durability and long-distance sporting ability. This particular example has been the subject of an extensive restoration project undertaken by its enthusiastic owner, who originally intended to retain and enjoy the machine rather than offer it for sale. Consequently, considerable attention has been devoted to sourcing difficult-to-find original components and preparing the motorcycle to a high standard. Of particular note is the engine, which the vendor advises was assembled by respected Laverda specialist Steve Winterton, who previously worked for the renowned British Laverda importers, Slater Brothers, before establishing himself as an independent specialist. The motorcycle is offered dismantled, with final assembly and recommissioning required. The frame has been professionally finished in silver epoxy coating, a deliberate departure from the original black intended to give the motorcycle a lighter, more competition-inspired appearance. The fuel tank and side panels have been repainted and are described as being in excellent condition, while numerous components have been rechromed, including the particularly well-presented chainguard. Importantly, the accompanying collection includes the distinctive SF1 accelerator-pump carburettors, their associated cables and the increasingly difficult-to-source original inlet rubbers. The vendor also advises that the original instruments, speedometer drive and numerous other scarce fittings are present. Further additions include a specially fabricated stainless-steel battery carrier, produced to replicate the original component, together with the original airbox and an assortment of other parts. The vendor has also accumulated a spare cylinder barrel, understood to be machined to the first oversize, complete with matching pistons. These components were purchased privately as useful spares during the restoration. Of additional interest are original Laverda-branded fasteners, a distinctive period detail which the vendor has taken care to preserve. Having been acquired and restored with the intention of long-term ownership, the motorcycle is now offered as an unfinished project following a change in circumstances. Although dismantled, the vendor advises that the collection contains many of the important and increasingly difficult-to-obtain components necessary to complete the restoration. The motorcycle is accompanied by its V5C Registration Document and a collection of manuals, providing useful supporting documentation for its next custodian. An appealing opportunity for a Laverda enthusiast to complete a carefully considered restoration of one of the marque’s most respected sporting twins, benefiting from specialist engine work, numerous refinished components and a substantial collection of original and spare parts. Please note: The motorcycle is offered as a dismantled, non-running restoration project. The completeness of the component collection has not been independently verified, and prospective purchasers are encouraged to inspect the lot and accompanying parts before bidding. ** Bidding will take place live at the venue, online via our H&H website, by telephone and commission - T&Cs apply** Entry by catalogue and can be purchased for £20 (admits 2...
